About

Dr. Matthew Stork is a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the School of Health and Exercise Sciences. He completed his PhD in Health and Exercise Sciences at the University of British Columbia Okanagan.

Research

While Matt’s research has ranged from investigating first year university students to individuals living with a spinal cord injury, the main focus of his PhD research was to examine the psychological and behavioural implications of engaging in high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Matt has a particular interest in studying largely inactive populations, with a focus in determining ways to promote and maximize long-term exercise adherence. As such, he has also studied the effects of music as a way of enhancing people’s psychological and physiological responses to exercise and subsequently encouraging future exercise participation.

Matt’s current research in the Diabetes Prevention Research Group is focused on developing and delivering novel and practical interventions such as “exercise snacks” in real-world settings such as the workplace. As a Mitacs Accelerate Postdoctoral Intern, Matt also led an industry-research collaboration with Lululemen Athletica which examined the real-world impact of an mHealth app on functional movement and physical fitness.
